Description

Warm up with this comforting Slow Cooker French Onion Soup, filled with caramelized onions, aromatic herbs, and topped with gooey cheese—perfect for cozy nights or impressing guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 8 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 crusty baguette, sliced into thick pieces
  • 2 cups Gruyère cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and sauté until soft and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  2. Transfer the sautéed onions to a slow cooker. Pour in the beef broth and add thyme. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Cover and cook on low for about 8 hours or high for 4 hours.
  4. About 30 minutes before serving, toast baguette slices until golden brown.
  5. Ladle hot soup into oven-safe bowls. Top each bowl with toasted baguette slices and sprinkle generously with Gruyère cheese.
  6. Broil until the cheese is bubbly and golden. Serve immediately.
