Description

A nostalgic dish that brings back memories of cafeteria lunches with its savory sausage and gooey mozzarella, making it perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 cups shredded whole milk mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Grease a baking sheet or pizza stone with olive oil.
  5. Roll out the risen dough to about a quarter-inch thick on a floured surface.
  6. Transfer the rolled-out dough to the prepared baking surface and spread pizza sauce evenly over it.
  7. Sprinkle cooked sausage over the sauce followed by an even layer of shredded mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until crust is golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
