Ingredients
Scale
- 1 French baguette or Italian bread (about 12 oz)
- 2 large sweet onions, sliced
- 1 cup grated fresh Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) for optimal crispiness.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Sauté for about 15 minutes until golden brown and soft. For deeper flavor, continue to sauté for an additional 5–10 minutes.
- While the onions caramelize, slice the baguette into half-inch thick pieces and arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush the remaining tablespoon of olive oil onto each slice of bread. Generously top with the caramelized onions, followed by a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are crisp and cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Remove from the oven, allow to cool slightly, then serve hot as an appetizer or snack.
