Description

Delight in these savory French Onion Cups filled with caramelized onions, rich cheese, and flaky pastry—a perfect appetizer for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large yellow or sweet onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 cup low-sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
  • 1 package (about 14 oz) puff pastry sheets

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add sliced onions and sauté until caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
  2. Stir in fresh thyme and vegetable broth. Simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a muffin tin with parchment paper or grease lightly.
  4. Roll out puff pastry sheets on a floured surface and cut squares to fit snugly into each muffin cup. Press squares into the muffin tin.
  5. Spoon the caramelized onion mixture generously into each pastry cup.
  6. Top each filled cup with shredded Gruyère cheese.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until pastry is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Transfer to plates and serve hot.
