Description
This fluffy and warm naan bread is perfect for scooping up your favorite curries or enjoying with dips.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp melted butter or ghee (for brushing)
Instructions
- 1. Prepare Your Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar, then sprinkle in active dry yeast. Let it sit for about five minutes until frothy. In another bowl, mix flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yogurt and activated yeast mixture.
- 2. Knead the Dough: Stir the mixture until it forms a shaggy dough. Lightly flour your surface and knead the dough for about eight minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 3. Let It Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about one hour or until doubled in size.
- 4. Shape Your Naan: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each piece into a ball, then roll out each ball into an oval shape about half an inch thick.
- 5. Cook the Naan: Preheat your skillet over medium-high heat (no oil needed). Cook one rolled-out naan on the skillet until bubbles form on top (about two minutes), then flip it over and cook until golden brown spots appear (another minute).
- 6. Finish & Serve: Remove from skillet and brush with melted butter or ghee while still warm. Keep them covered with a towel to stay warm as you repeat with remaining pieces.

Keywords: For added flavor, consider incorporating garlic or herbs into the dough. You can substitute all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier alternative. Ensure that your dough is soft but not sticky to make rolling easier.
